History of Our Museum

Sulphur Springs, home to many historic buildings and sites, has a rich and diverse history. Long-time residents and members of the Sulphur Springs Neighborhood Association created the Museum’s vision to
-
showcase this history
-
contribute to the community’s economic growth
-
increase respect and preservation of its natural features
-
provide educational resources and opportunities.
Our Museum was founded in 2006, when we partnered with faculty and students in the University of South Florida’s Department of Anthropology. They helped us by performing research, conducting oral histories with local residents, and providing other resources to support our initiative. In 2017, we opened in a new facility at the Mann-Wagnon Memorial Park, marking a new era for the Museum.
Grand Opening in 2017
Our new facility opened on February 4, 2017, at Mann-Wagnon Memorial Park. Our debut display was the Smithsonian WaterWays Exhibit. Guest speakers Dr. Liz Bird, Reverend Delores Washington, Dr. Antoinette Jackson, Mrs. Chloe Coney, City Councilman Frank Reddick, and County Commissioner Les Miller were present to commemorate the inauguration of the Museum.
Our Sponsors
We have received grants and other sponsorships from various entities over the years, which have helped make our work possible. Please contact us if you support our initiatives and would like to discuss partnerships, such as naming an event or program.
